A Page Held Open for Matthew Gilbert, Esq.
Topic: Intelligence Capital — how knowledge patterns emerge, who benefits, and how this lens advances the Capital Conversion Framework.
Why does this page look different?
Matthew Gilbert introduced Intelligence Capital in June 2022 as a distinct concept worthy of study in the Capital Conversion Framework for the Black Capital Study. Up until 2025, we pushed and prodded at the boundaries of Cultual Capital, but it was not until March 7, 2025, when it also became apparent that AI tools were erasing and perptuating power and information asymmetries that paralleled the real-world phenomena we were studying as part of the Black Capital Study. This realization made it clear to the team that Matt was right and distingquising Cultural Capital from Inteligence Captial is important. We realized information was being flattened —like much of Black history—humanity cannot afford to lose. His insight reshaped the entire Moment-of-Truth project; every pattern we have surfaced traces back to the importance of mapping patterns of erasure and memory continuity issues in many human systems.
Why we chose to wait on sharing Matthew Gilbert’s Moment of Truth story
Honoring Intelligence Capital means showing the same care for its author that the concept demands for any community’s knowledge. Finishing the page for him would flatten context and weaken the framework.
Ethical Intelligence Anchors guiding this decision (4 of the 8)
| Anchor | How it applies here |
|---|---|
| 1. Consent > Containment | Knowledge stays with its author until they release it. |
| 2. Clarity > Coherence | An honest gap is better than a polished guess. |
| 3. Fracture > Flattening | The missing voice is data; we won’t smooth it over. |
| 4. Continuity > Compliance | We preserve the space indefinitely—even if deadlines press. |
This page will remain open until Matthew is ready. By holding space, we honor both the origin story of Intelligence Capital and model the ethical principles in action.
